Quantum technologies are now a reality. The GPS we use in our phones benefits from highly-precise atomic clocks that orbit around our planet. On campus, we have a quantum network used to transmit quantum information, and two quantum computers where calculations are defined by the strange laws of Quantum Mechanics. It is then a timely opportunity for our students to get exposed to these emerging technologies, all the way from our PhD candidates to our undergraduate students.
Along different courses, we will present some of these quantum concepts. In our undergraduate programs, we will start from the basics. We will learn the mathematical background needed to fully understand the quantum formalism, and will be exposed to this historic development that these technologies have experienced over the last century. By the end of the course, we will even have a hands-on experience doing calculations with a real quantum computer. With this teaching approach —based on practical cases, historic achievements and hands-on experiences— we intend to foster the engagement with the course, which we believe to be the key for a successful learning experience.
